Karen and I had a good, but busy, Easter week. The Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter sunrise services, not to mention the Easter services, were good reminders of Jesus' sacrifice and the promise of new life in Him. However, after lunch on Easter, we just lounged around and visited with Sondra and Glen, who came to visit.
Last Thursday, we went with Jason to the 2009 WSU Men's Basketball banquet. Garret Stutz sat at our table. We had a good time.
Jason and I are participating in the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus, which had it's first concert of 2009 yesterday in Lindsborg. 300 men singing gospel and church songs is amazing. I am reminded of the Promise Keepers' choir shirts that had the caption "Real Men Sing Real Loud". Amen to that! For those who are interested, the next concert will be Sunday, April 26, at Memorial Hall at Bethel College, North Newton, KS. Another option if you can't make it is the 2009 KMMC CD, which will come out later this year for $15.
And wait! there's more! If you call within the next 30 minutes, ...
Update on Joel: For the past couple of months, Joel has been in the desert in Nevada doing research about desert turtles. This is only temporary, however, and Joel will return to Lawrence in a few weeks. I am looking forward to hear the stories he will have to tell. Here is a link to the outfit he is working with: Great Basin Institute
Here are some links to some poignant songs rom a couple of old Jesus Freaks:
Don Francisco:
"He's Alive" and "Jehoshaphat".
"Steeple Song"
Keith Green:
There is a Redeemer
Asleep in the light
Your Love Broke Through
FYI, Keith Green was killed in a plane crash in July, 1982. LoRee and I saw him in concert two months before his death.
The Job Hunt: I am still looking! Some good news: I will be teaching two algebra courses for Hutchinson CC this summer, and perhaps other courses, on a part-time basis, this fall. However, full-time employment has been so-far elusive. Anybody want to hire a computer geek?
Later!

It's Friday, but Sunday's coming
It's Good Friday, but Sunday's coming!
I hope that you will be blessed again by the resurrection story this Easter! Jesus sacrifice on the cross for us is incredible by itself, but the resurrection is absolutely awesome!
Last week, we concluded a 5 week bible study centered around the movie, "The Passion of the Christ". It was really good. Last night we had Maundy Thursday meal, not actually a seder, but a reasonable facsimile, after which a few of us viewed the movie in it's entirety. What an amazing re-enactment of The Passion story! It really brings home to me the suffering that Jesus endured for you and me. What love He has for us!
Several years ago, I heard Rev. S. M. Lockridge give an amazing sermon titled "It's Friday, but Sunday's comin!" I haven't yet been able to find a copy of the entire sermon, but here is a link to excerpts from the sermon, with scenes from "The Passion" movie.
Tree63 also recorded a song called Sunday that I think is great.
Enjoy.
Happy Easter!

Rob is on-line!
The information superhighway will never be the same! I now have a blogspot. And now the news from Kingman County...
We have recovered from the snow storm last weekend. Karen and I just stayed inside for a couple of days and caught up on our sleep and TV Watching. I planned to spend time in Newton, but all the roads were closed on Saturday. Karen wasn't used to sleeping in on Sunday and staying home! Now that the snow has melted, it is nice to see that Spring decided to come back and stay.
FYI, Jason and I are singing in the Kansas Mennonite Men's Chorus. We have two up-coming concerts: April 19 at Bethany College in Lindsborg, and April 26 at Bethel College in Newton. Hope you can come to one of them! I will post details later.
Karen just had a birthday in March. She is now XX years old ( you will have to ask her yourself).
In other news, I posted my first website last week. I developed a website for our church: www.geocities.com/kingmancc. It's not fancy, but I will be adding to it.
Some of you might want to read details of Karen's and my wedding last August. Briefly, I met Karen Ault on eHarmony.com in Feb. of last year, we got engaged in June, and married in August. She is the Pastor at Kingman Christian Church, has 3 adult children, Sondra (and husband Glen), Jason, and Suzie. She was just to overcome by my wit, brilliance, and good looks to say no when I proposed. Ok, ok, that's stretching it a bit. But, she is a great lady and is just the kind of woman I was praying for. I will post wedding pictures later.
Thought for the day: A bird in the hand will just make a mess!
Better thought for the day: the Spirit of the Lord will not lead you to where the Hand of God cannot keep you.

Genesis 14
Hi! This is my first blog! This is cool. I am sitting in my front room on my laptop blogging! Well anyway . . .
Liesel wanted my commentary on Genesis 14, so here goes. There were some guys that did a thing and got some people ticked and then they had a war and someone said something. Want a little more detail? Ok. The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah rebelled against the king of Elam, hereafter called Mr. C. He didn't like that so he came, defeated some other kings, and came up against the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah, raided their cities, took all of their food, kidnapped Lot, Abraham's nephew, and split. A fugitive told Abraham, who gathered up 318 of his men and took after Mr. C and his bunch. He defeated Mr. C's armies and chased them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. He rescued Lot, his posessions, women and people (servants, etc., I assume). When Abraham and his entourage returned and were passing through the valley of Shevah, the king of Sodom and Melchizedek, the king of Salem, came out to meet him. Melchizedek, who was also a priest of God (in the book of Hebrews, Christ is called a priest after the order of Melchizedek), blessed Abraham, and Abraham give him a tenth, that is, a tithe. Then the king of Sodom offered to let Abraham keep the rescued goods from the two cities, but Abraham refused, saying that he didn't want anything that belonged to the king of Sodom, only the food that the rescued prisoner's had eaten (I have heard teachers explain that Abraham had such disdain for the king of Sodom that he didn't want any gifts from him so that he would not be obligated to him in any way). There you have it, the HNV (Harvester Nutshell Version).
